Storage bays

Industry

The needs of the asphalt plant were two-fold. On one hand, an effective and safe separation of the heavy materials required to produce asphalt, and dry storage of sand on the other. Because asphalt plants are required to produce in a more sustainable manner, the dry storage of sand is important. In this way, it does not need to be heated before it gets processed into asphalt. As Legioblock always offers a complete solution, the open storage bays and industrial building with roofing construction were combined in one project, which of course included expert advice, statistical calculations and building plans.

Legio-Footblock®

The Legio-Footblock was specially designed to increase the storage capacity of storage bays. Using the wide foot element also increases the load carrying capacity of the wall. In general, constructions that use footblocks can be built higher than constructions that do not.

In the case of the asphalt plant, using footblocks resulted in added value because of the heavy loads imposed by the materials. Thanks to the widened bottom of the footblocks, 160 centimetres as opposed to 80 centimetres in a standard Legioblock, loads can be optimally distributed. The widened bottom of the footblocks results in sturdy and safe walls.

Permanent or temporary storage structures

As Legioblocks can be moved, they are suitable for permanent and temporary applications. The asphalt plant wanted a flexible storage site and therefore chose Legioblock’s flexible and movable construction system.

As the walls or even the entire bays can be moved or modified at any given time, they now have the freedom to adapt their storage capacity to changing needs. An additional advantage of Legioblock is that the interlocking concrete blocks can also be relocated during a move and reconstructed elsewhere.
