Voller Group has constructed a new storage depot for cocoa in the Port of Antwerp at Leopold dock. Using Legioblock’s interlocking concrete blocks, the depot was divided into different storage spaces with walls that are up to eight metres high. Legioblock’s flexibility meant that it was possible to build the storage bays under the conveyor.

Over 70,000 tonnes of storage

In only six weeks, a quick and safe cocoa storage facility was built with thousands of Legioblocks. The warehouse has bays of up to 8.80 metres high with a total storage capacity over 70,000 tonnes.

Legio-Footblock

Legio-Footblocks were used to increase the capacity of storage bays. The wide foot design ensured that the load carrying capacity of the wall increased and allowed them to build higher. Another advantage of the block is that its sloping foot ensures that material slides off the block and doesn’t get trapped in the corners.

Special coating

In order to prevent contact between the foodstuffs in the cocoa storage depot of Vollers, the storage bays were treated with a protective coating. Another reason for using this is to prevent cocoa from ending up between the seams of the Legioblocks.

Cost-efficient

This seal is usually applied to make the construction waterproof or to protect against chemicals and other stored products. By adding a protective layer to the coating, the concrete blocks are not affected, making it a cost effective solution.
